Cliffs Of Dover
~S~ Killers,
As some of you have maybe noticed, we are moving on to new things.
First let's say that we will still be playing the old IL2 Sturmovik 1946 for a long while, so don't worry. But we do not see a lot happening from our group lately.
Some of our members have got some interest in playing the "other" IL2 game, IL2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover on Steam.
Yeah, we did it! Everyone of you (I am speaking to all pilots, MOG or not) that has a computer strong enough to play Cliffs of Dover is invited to join the party. The game is now sold at the very low price of 20$, which in my book is nothing.
Since we began this IL2 thingy, we all had plenty of time to upgrade our machines, and everyone was always reminded of the importance to upgrade, if it was only to keep up with IL2 Sturmovik 1946 and its mods. In that very long time, many did it, and many now have a decent computer that can run the game.
A decent computer for Cliffs of Dover will not break your bank at all. I already have shown you how good you can get under the 1000$ mark. It can even cost a lot less.
So let's talk again about computer upgrade. What you really need? Well, first get at least a dual core Intel processor, or even cheaper, a quad core AMD (they still sell the very thrusty 90$ Phenom II 965BE processor). A motherboard can go from 90$ up to 3-400$. Get the 90$ one. 4 gig of DDR3 memory, windows 7 at least (costy 120$), sata HDD 250 GB (about 90$) and a DVD writer (30$), you hook up all the other stuff you have, maybe get a power supply for under 100$ (450 watts is enough), and a good GTX650 ti boost (140-169$) and there you go. All that stuff can be purchased separatelly, once in a while, after some time you can put that togheter (that is much easier than you think), install windows, install drivers, and there you go, you have a decent machine under the 1000$ mark.
You already have the screen, keyboard, headset, joystick, mouse, etc... that can be retrofited into your new computer.
Most computer cases will fit that stuff, unless you have a very specific one. You do not know how to build it? There is some computer shops that can do it for a small fee.
So there will be Cliffs of Dover sessions every weekend from now, and just let our hopes keep on low. We do not expect a lot of people being drawn in to our group, but we can still have a lot of fun togheter trying to figure out a new game (actually it's easier than you think).
There will be no dedicated server for Cliffs of Dover, only hosted games.
Installation is very simple:
1. Buy it on Steam, and let it download and install to its default location. Install the TF 3.00 mod, then its 3.01 counterpart, those are self installers that will find your installation. Nothing else to do.
Once you have the game set up and running, go into your control settings, and delete every single settings in every single category (there is a drop down menu at the top that let you select the categories). When done make sure all categories are empty, and then begin one category at a time setting your controls in a way it would be very close to what you have in the old IL2. Some are a bit tricky though: you will have to set 2 keys for radiator (open and close), 2 for oil pan, 2 for carb heat.
One golden rule for your settings is to use a key combination only once, regardless of the categories, so you do not end up having 2 settings for one key. The game does not a good job of detecting if a key has already been used in another category. If so a key that sets up 2 different things will either only work for one settings or not work at all, and sometimes will trigger as many actions as there is the same key for all those different actions.
See you in the sky soon,
MOG_Hammer
HSFX 6.0 installation Procedure
First, downloads on IL2 1946 downloads page have been updated, now includes 4.11.1 and HSFX6.0, plus HSFX6.0.1 patch.
Listen up people! It has been noticed that our members have some issues with their installation of HSFX 6.0.1. Instead of following the exact procedure, they just do silly things like installing over existing UP3.0RC4. Not good at all. UP3.0 changes a lot of things that will not get updated by HSFX6.0.
Again, here is the CORRECT procedure:
ALWAYS USE A FRESH INSTALL.
DOWNLOAD HSFX6.0.1 Patch (click this)
1. DO NOT INSTALL HSFX6.0.1 OVER UP3.0
2. Always do a fresh install of IL2 DVD ON THE C:\ DRIVE. Create a folder at installation on the C:\ DRIVE.
3. Install patch 4.08m in your IL2 FOLDER ON THE C:\DRIVE
4. Install 4.09m the same as 4.08m
5. Install 4.10m the same as 4.09m
6. Install 4.10.1m the same as 4.10m
7. Install 4.11m the same as 4.10.1m
8. Install 4.11.1m the same as 4.11m. Copy and paste this installation for further use.
9. Install HSFX 6.0 at IL2 folder location ON THE C:\ DRIVE.
10. Install HSFX6.0.1 the same as HSFX6.0. Location on IL2 will be selected automaticaly for you.
JSGME (find jsgme.exe in your main IL2 folder): Select HSFX History mod, select Expert Mode. That's it!
Not following this foolproof, noobsecure, dummyfriendly procedure equals shopping for trouble. You get what you deserve folks!

HSFX 6.0.1 Hotfix is out. It corrects a lot of bugs, so install it whenever you get the chance. You would still be able to play on the server, since the patch does not change the version of the server, if you do not have it. Before installation, make sure you deactivate all mods in JSGME, then install the hotfix. It will automatically install in the right folder, since HSFX6.0 main installation creates a registry key on your computer that contains the path of your IL2 game. After installation, reactivate your mods.
